Ultrasound exams are imaging studies that use sound waves to look at soft tissues in your body. Each year about 12,000 ultrasound studies are performed at KGH. While most often associated with pregnancy, ultrasounds are also used to look at:
- Muscles of the extremities
- Veins and arteries
KGH's Fetal Assessment Unit performs the majority of the ultrasounds for expectant parents and the Vascular Lab performs ultrasounds and echocardiography for cardiac patients. To help you prepare for your ultrasound, we have an Ultrasound Inpatient preparation sheet as well as an Ultrasound Outpatient preparation sheet.
