Types of rooms available

Once you are admitted to the hospital, registration staff will speak with you about the type of room you would like. They will also answer any questions about your admission and bed accommodations. If you are requesting a specific type of room, you'll be asked to sign an ‘Accommodation Request Form.’ The types of rooms available on the Postpartum unit are:

  • Private Room - 1 bed per room which includes a private bathroom with tub and shower.
  • Semi-private Room -  2 beds per room, separated by a curtain which includes a shared  bathroom with a shower.
  • Standard Ward Room - 3 beds per room, separated by a curtain which includes a shared bathroom with a shower only.

There is one ward room, four semi-private rooms and five private rooms on the postpartum unit. We will make every effort to make sure you get the kind of room you want, but please be aware that room type may not be available when you arrive. We will do everything we can to make sure that you get the type of room you want, when it becomes available. If you have any special traditional or cultural needs that will be impacted by the type of room you receive, please talk to your caregiver before your admission.

Please be aware of the costs associated with a private or semi-private room are not covered by OHIP. Please make sure to follow up and see if you have additional insurance to cover these costs. If you do not, and you still request a private or semi-private room, you will be responsible for those costs. For more information on billing, click here.
