Valérie Gamache-O’Leary is Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC). Throughout her career, she has helped healthcare organizations navigate complex change by combining long-term strategic thinking with disciplined execution.

At KHSC, Val leads a broad portfolio focused on digital health strategy, organizational performance and transformation. Her responsibilities span information systems and technology, clinical informatics, cybersecurity, performance management, data analytics and artificial intelligence, clinical engineering, privacy, contracts and corporate risk management. Through these functions, and the corporate Project Management Office, her teams support the governance and delivery of major clinical, operational and corporate initiatives within KHSC and for partner organizations.

Val has played a leadership role in many of the organization’s largest transformation initiatives, including the integration of processes, systems and technology following the creation of KHSC, the implementation and stabilization of the regional Lumeo health information system, modernization of core technology and cybersecurity infrastructure, the advancement of enterprise imaging and digital pathology, and the development of KHSC’s approaches to clinical informatics, analytics, performance management and artificial intelligence. She also introduced an evidence-based clinical equipment renewal framework that supports long-term capital planning and investment decisions. Many of these initiatives have been undertaken in partnership with other healthcare organizations.

Beyond KHSC, Val works with healthcare organizations across Eastern Ontario and the province on shared initiatives that improve care delivery and organizational performance. Her work often involves bringing multiple organizations together to establish common priorities, governance and implementation approaches. She participates actively in shaping health system priorities through the East Region Digital Health Advisory Council, the Ontario Health Local Delivery Group East, and the Ontario Oracle Health Collaborative.

Prior to joining KHSC, Val held progressively senior information management leadership roles at The Ottawa Hospital, including Chief Information Officer. During her tenure, she led major clinical and business transformation initiatives, helped integrate information systems from five organizations following the creation of The Ottawa Hospital, and served as Program Executive for Connecting Northern and Eastern Ontario (cNEO).

Val holds a Bachelor of Arts from Mount Allison University and an MBA from the University of Ottawa. She is a PhD candidate in Management at Carleton University’s Sprott School of Business, where her research focuses on information technology governance.
