We understand that having a sick child is difficult and we are dedicated to helping your child feel better so they can get back home as soon as possible. We provide expert care to children and babies from birth up to their 18th birthday.
Many of our pediatricians have subspecialty training and expertise in the fields of neonatology (newborn & premature babies), neurology, asthma and behavioural pediatrics. We are a designated teaching site for Queen’s University medical students.
If you have a newborn who has an illness, they will be admitted to our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) located at our Kingston General Hospital (KGH) site. Approximately 400 babies are admitted to the NICU each year. We are a level III facility which means we can care for babies who have been born extremely premature, are critically ill, or require surgery. While you are here, our NICU staff is concerned not only for your baby’s well-being, but for yours as well. We'll also provide you with support to help you through your experience. For more information on the NICU click here.
Older children who require inpatient care will be admitted to our Pediatric Unit on the tenth floor of KGH's Kidd wing. In this unit, our specialized teams provide expert care to our young patients. While your child is here, we'll encourage you to actively participate in their care, because you are your child's voice and the most important person in your child's life. You provide the love and devotion to your child that only a parent can and that's why we want you to be with your child as often as possible. Outpatient care is provided at Hotel Dieu Hospital (HDH) site in the Children’s Outpatient Centre and the KidsInclusive Centre for Child & Youth Development. Ambulatory cancer patients are supported through the Cancer Centre at KGH.
We are proud to serve the children and families of our area and are dedicated to providing high-quality, specialized care for your child. If you have any questions, please talk to a member of our care team, we are always happy to speak with you and your family.
