The Medical Genetics Program at Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) provides comprehensive genetics care for individuals and families who are at risk of having a genetic diagnosis.
Consultations are offered on an outpatient basis and may include genetic testing prior to your appointment. We assist in addressing possible genetic diagnoses, keeping in mind the complex ethical, social, and family implications.
We work in a multidisciplinary team consisting of: Administrators, a Dietician (Metabolic), Genetic Counsellors, Medical Geneticists, Nurses (Metabolic and Newborn screening), a Social Worker (Metabolic), and a Pharmacist (Metabolic).
The practice is divided into four areas:
- General Genetics - We provide clinical management and genetic counselling to a wide variety of patients and assessment of potential genetic conditions.
- Cancer Genetics - The Familial Oncology Program (FOP) offers genetic counselling and testing to patients at risk of inherited forms of cancer. Click here to learn more about the Familial Oncology Program.
- Prenatal Genetics - The Prenatal Genetics Program offers comprehensive genetic counselling and support to pregnant patients and those contemplating pregnancy. Click here to learn more about the Prenatal Genetics Program.
- Metabolic Genetics and Newborn Screening - We provide clinical management and genetic counselling to a wide variety of patients with a positive newborn screen or confirmed diagnosis of a metabolic condition. Click here to learn more about Newborn Screening.
