In November of 1838 the hospital cared for its first patients: 20 wounded American soldiers taken prisoner in the Battle of the Windmill near Prescott during the Rebellion of 1837. It was a battle won by British troops and local militia from the region who successfully defended the St. Lawrence waterway and Upper Canada.
