The Kingston General Hospital Research Institute congratulates KGHRI clinician scientist Dr. Stephen Vanner on being a recipient of Queen’s University’s 2016 Prize for Excellence in Research.
Dr. Vanner is one of five outstanding Queen’s researchers named to this year’s honour, which recognizes significant contributions to their field. Dr. Vanner was cited for his innovative research into the causes of, and treatments for, the pain associated with irritable bowel syndrome. He was also recognized for his leadership of the Gastrointestinal Diseases Research Unit (GIDRU) and his service as deputy head of the Department of Medicine. Dr. Vanner is recognized by his colleagues and peers as a scientific and research mentor, and as a leader in academic gastroenterology on the national front.
“The calibre of Dr. Vanner’s research is reflected in his co-leadership of a national study of Irritable Bowel Syndrome, part of the largest-ever study of gastrointestinal disease study in Canada,” says Roger Deeley, Vice President, Health Sciences Research, KGH and President, KGHRI. “His leading-edge work is helping to transform the treatment and management of these debilitating diseases. We are delighted to see him honoured in this way.”
The award includes a $5,000 prize and the opportunity to deliver a public lecture on the topic of their research.
