My oldest daughter was born prematurely at 32 weeks in 2015. During our stay in the NICU I participated in the FiCare study which really started my involvement and passion in working with other families in the unit. A year after she was born I started volunteering with the NICU as a parent partner. I went on to have another daughter born prematurely in 2018, and 10 years later I am still volunteering as a parent partner with our NICU. As a parent partner I have worked closely with the administration to ensure that parents of babies in the NICU have a voice and that their concerns are being heard. As a team of partners, we offer monthly peer parent sessions for current families to gather, meet and ask questions.

In 2021 my eldest daughter was diagnosed with a spinal cord tumor and has had a complicated road that has taken us to Sick Kids, where she continues to be followed. Through my children, I have had experience with the NICU, pediatrics in-patient unit, the pediatric cancer clinic, and Kids Inclusive here in Kingston and have experience as a care-giver navigating other hospitals as well. I am very privileged to be able to help provide a voice for those in need and  am proud to be able to be a part of the PFAC. I am currently sitting on the Green Committee and would like to get more involved in accessibility around the hospital. I am also working on developing a peer parenting group for the pediatric in-patient unit.
