Sexual assault includes any unwanted sexual activity, such as touching, fondling, or penetration without consent. Consent means freely agreeing to participate in sexual activity. A person who is impaired by medications, drugs, or alcohol cannot give consent.
Intimate Partner Violence can take many forms, including physical, emotional, psychological, sexual, financial, material, and spiritual abuse, and verbal threats.
Do you need our help?
If you have experienced sexual assault or intimate partner violence within the past year, the Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence (SADV) team is here to support you.
Our services are available to all ages and gender identities.
Your care will be provided in a private, secure setting by specially trained staff. We are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Some care options are time‑sensitive, so reaching out early can expand the choices available to you.
How to access the SADV team
Referrals can be made by any health-care provider, police services, counsellor or other related community agency. However, you do not need a referral and self-referrals are always welcome.
We are here to help in whichever option feels safest for you.
Option 1 – Access via any emergency department
This is the best option for time-sensitive care:
- The event happened within the last five days, or
- You have injuries that need medical attention
Action: Go to the nearest emergency department and ask to see the SADV team when you check in at triage. The SADV nurse will work with the emergency team to support you as quickly as possible.
Option 2 – Calling the SADV nurse on-call
A trained SADV nurse is available to help you determine the best care option based on your situation.
This option may be right for you if:
- You need time‑sensitive care (within 12 days)
- You have injuries that do not require emergency treatment
- You feel unsafe going to the emergency department
- A child or youth has shared concerns about sexual contact, or you are worried about possible sexual abuse and the timing is unknown
Action: Call 613-549-6666 ext. 0 and ask to speak to the SADV nurse on-call.
Option 3 – Outpatient clinic appointment
This option works best for:
- Events that happened more than two weeks ago
- Individuals looking for counselling, follow‑up care, or community referrals
- People who prefer care scheduled at specific times
Action: Call the SADV clinic 613-549-6666 ext. 62837 to book a clinic appointment.
You are not alone
We want you to know: What happened is not your fault.
No matter what you did, or didn’t do, no one ever deserves to be assaulted or abused. The person who caused harm is the only one responsible for their actions.
People care about you and want to support your healing. Whether you choose to tell a friend, a trusted adult, or a professional, there is help available.
When you’re ready, we are here.
Our services
You can come on your own, or bring a family member or friend. For adolescents, you are not required to bring a parent or guardian, but you may want to have a support person with you.
