Public washrooms are available on every unit and floor throughout KHSC. There are also fully accessible public washrooms located throughout KHSC that can accommodate larger scooters.
Most care units have accessible public washrooms available, please check with a member of the care team for more information.
Please be aware that to prevent the spread of infections and to keep you safe, the washrooms in patient rooms are for the use of our patients only.
We ask that items such as wipes, even if they are labelled as "flushable," are not disposed of using the toilets in the washrooms.

Public Gender-Inclusive Washrooms
What are gender-inclusive washrooms?
Gender-inclusive washrooms are washrooms that can be used by someone of any gender.
Why are they important?
According to the 2021 Census, Kingston is the most gender diverse city in Ontario. This means Kingston has the highest proportion of transgender and non-binary individuals in Ontario, and is the fifth most gender-diverse urban center in Canada.
Transgender, nonbinary, and gender non-conforming people frequently experience harassment, and discrimination when gendered (men and women) washrooms are the only option available. This can result in people not using facilities to meet their basic needs because they don’t feel safe.
Gender-inclusive washrooms allow people to use the washroom without having to choose between gendered options that may not reflect who they are. They also serve many others in our community—such as people with caregivers or support workers of a different gender, or parents with young children—by offering privacy, safety, and accessibility.
