Who are we?
Patient/Family Experience Advisors are patients and/or family* member of a patient who have received care at Kingston Health Sciences Centre. We are ordinary people, with diverse experiences, wanting to make a difference to care at KHSC.
- We participate in programs and projects specific to our interests and experience.
- We partner with leaders at all levels of the organization to help improve the quality of care for all patients.
- We are not healthcare professionals.
- We volunteer our time.
- We are willing to share our perspectives with the goal of improving the patient experience.
*Family: Individuals recognized as family by the patient.
What do we do?
Here are a few ways we partner with hospital leaders to constructively share the patient and family perspective in planning and decision making.
- Participate with staff on short and long-term committees, working groups, quality improvement teams and patient/family advisory councils for KHSC, Regional Renal and Cancer Programs and Child and Youth Mental Health.
- Review, identify and create information/education materials for patients and family members in collaboration with staff.
- Provide input on priorities that are important to the patient experience which may include welcoming loved ones, accessibility, parking, signage and discharge planning to facility planning and patient flow processes.
