Cardiac Care

People from across southeastern Ontario, who have various heart conditions, receive specialized care including heart surgery at Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC).

Your heart care journey may begin with a heart test to understand your symptoms. Your journey may start with a sudden and serious heart condition such as a heart attack and a visit to the emergency department.

However your heart care begins, you may need to stay at our Kingston General Hospital site on the Kidd 3 or Davies 3 units. Once we’ve determined the cause of your symptoms, we offer a number of treatments, as well as surgical procedures to help improve your quality of life.

Cardiac care team

We will listen to you and partner with you to make sure you are involved in all decisions about your care and treatment plan. Our teams always include doctors and nurses, but other individuals such as patient care assistants, occupational therapists, social workers, physiotherapists and dietitians, just to name a few, may also be involved in your care depending on your needs. Learn more about some of the people you may meet on your care team.

Ongoing care

If you are not already a patient at one of our outpatient clinics, when you leave the hospital you may be referred to a specialty clinic for ongoing care at KHSC or in your home community.
