Smoke Free, Scent Sensitive, Latex Sensitive

Smoke Free

Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) is entirely smoke free, which means smoking is not permitted anywhere on KHSC property. We have done this to protect everyone from exposure to second hand smoke. As part of the change, we have removed all of our dedicated smoking shelters. We have a number of smoking cessation supports in place for patients. If you know of a patient who would like support to quit smoking, please speak with a member of their health-care team.

Scent Sensitive

For the safety and comfort of those with allergies and sensitivities, please respect that all KHSC sites are scent sensitive environments. Do not wear any scented products or bring flowers with scents into the hospital. These include freesias, lilacs, lavenders, lilies, hyacinths and peonies. Other items that you should not use or bring when you visit the hospital include:

  • Perfumes and colognes
  • Scented fabric softeners, stain removers and laundry detergents
  • Scented soaps and deodorants
  • Scented shampoos and hair products
  • Scented body powders and lotions

Please see this list of scent-free products.

Latex Sensitive

Please do not bring any latex products, including balloons, into the hospital as they may cause allergic reactions in some people. Balloons made from non-latex materials are welcome.
