Preparation

  • Remember to bring a valid Health Card (OHIP card) with you to each appointment.
  • Patients should bring a list of their current medications including inhalers and over-the-counter medications.
  • If you are coming to the MSAP Clinic for an IV iron infusion, and your physician has identified you need to bring your own supply, this should be picked up from a Pharmacy and brought with you at the time of your appointment. If you have questions about this process you can contact the clinic directly.
Preparing for IV iron appointments
  • Before your first dose of IV iron tell your doctor or nurse if you are allergic to any medications, including iron pills.
  • Please ensure that you bring the medication with you to the appointment.
  • During the infusion, if you develop any side effects, please let the nurses know right away.
  • On the day of your appointment, please take all regular medications as prescribed. Hold any oral iron the day of your appointment.
  • It is important that you have something to eat and are well hydrated prior to the appointment. You may have food/drink during the infusion if you like as well.

What you can expect
