Breast Imaging Kingston

Breast Imaging Kingston (BIK) provides breast imaging services and procedures to help screen for, diagnose and treat breast cancer. As part of the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP), this state-of-the-art, $7 million facility provides a range of diagnostic procedures to individuals across Southeastern Ontario. The facility serves as both a patient care and training hub for physicians and technologists.

The Government of Ontario has expanded breast screening eligibility to include individuals as young as 40. If you are between the ages of 40-74 you can book an exam through Breast Imaging Kingston. You do not require a referral from a doctor or nurse practitioner. Learn more about the expanded provincial screening guidelines here.

Breast Cancer Screening at BIK

Routine breast cancer screening can detect precancerous anomalies or early signs of cancer, making treatment easier and more effective.

Screening is primarily done through mammograms - quick and effective x-rays. In instances where cancer may be difficult to detect, or where suspected cancers need to be confirmed, BIK can also use a number of specialized procedures, including:

  • 3D digital mammography/mammogram
  • Breast ultrasound and ABUS (Automated Breast Ultrasound)
  • MagSeed breast lesion localizations
  • Contrast-enhanced mammography
  • Breast biopsy services

Breast cancer treatments are provided at either our Kingston General Hospital or Hotel Dieu Hospital sites.
