Quality and Patient Safety

Quality improvement is an ongoing priority that helps us continually find new and better ways of doing things so that we can enhance care for patients, increase satisfaction and achieve even better clinical outcomes.

This section contains information and documents related to:

  • Our Quality Improvement Plan - The Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) sets targets for improving the safety, effectiveness, access and patient-centredness of the care hospitals provide. The plan contains a number of indicators and targets for improvement as well as how those targets will be achieved and the results.

  • Patient Safety Indicator Reports- We are committed to providing the best and safest care to our patients and one way we do this is by conducting targeted surveillance and publicly reporting on our infection rates. There are nine patient safety indicators that are publicly reported on this website and also by the provincial government.

  • Patient Rights & Responsibilities - We recognize that each patient has unique care needs and we encourage you to speak openly with your care team, be well informed and take part in care decisions and treatment choices.  To support your partnership with your care team you are encouraged to review the patient rights and responsibilities adhered to at Kingston Health Sciences Centre.

  • Hospital Accreditation – This is a voluntary process that allows health-care providers to assess every aspect of health care and service against national standards of excellence.  In 2022 Kingston Health Sciences Centre was awarded Accreditation with Exemplary Standing by Accreditation Canada.  The designation is the highest award possible through the hospital accreditation program.
