Every holiday season the members of the Kingston General Hospital Auxiliary get together to put on a variety of events that raise money for our hospital. This year was no different, with thousands of dollars coming from a bazaar, Santa photos and teddy bears. In total, more than $30,000 was raised, with plenty of help and generosity coming from local business and our own staff.
The Teddy Bear Campaign was a huge success, surpassing its goal of $20,000, or 200 bears, in order to purchase a Vein Viewer for our pediatrics department. The specialized machine makes the insertion of needles easier for young patients. Thirty bears were purchased in memory of Toni Borhi, a KGH Auxiliary employee who passed away last year. The campaign was also helped right from kickoff, with the Kawartha Credit Union stepping up again to cover expenses.
The Auxiliary also raised $1,100 through its popular annual Santa Photos event. Dennis Mercer of KGH Security donned the red suit and Matthew Manor, of the KGH Communications and Public Affairs department snapped the photographs. Camera Kingston once again provided free image printing. There were also donations from OPSEU Local 44, Queen's Finance, and the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 560.
This year's Holiday Harvest Bazaar also brought in more than $6,300, in addition to more than $5,000 raised through Auxiliary Gift Shop sales.
But there's more to come from the Auxiliary, who invite you to their 16th annual Staff Appreciation Tea on Thursday, Jan. 31 in the Atrium on Davies 0 from 1 to 3 p.m. Don't miss out on the refreshments, treats and door prizes.
