A major milestone in the work to formally integrate Hotel Dieu Hospital (HDH) and Kingston General Hospital (KGH) has been achieved. Current HDH CEO and Inaugural CEO of the new Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC), Dr. David Pichora has announced the make-up of the executive team that will lead the new organization.

On March 31, 2017, the executive teams and boards at HDH and KGH will be dissolved and the new teams will take leadership over the integrated organization on April 1, 2017. They will be responsible for guiding the hospital as it provides the highest quality of care to patients and families in Southeastern Ontario. The new executive team will include:

In addition, Steve Miller will serve as Corporate Development and Transition Lead to support ongoing integration activities over the next two years and Denise Cumming serves as an ex-officio member of the executive team in her role as President and CEO of University Hospitals Kingston Foundation.

“I am very excited to work together with this talented group of individuals,” says Dr. Pichora. “This group will help lead us into a future where our Kingston Health Sciences Centre is seen as the leading complex-acute, specialty and ambulatory care, research and teaching hospital in our region and beyond.”

The Chief of Staff/Vice-President Medical Affairs position for the integrated centre has not yet been filled. The process for selection is still underway and is expected to be complete in several weeks.

Along with the executive team, the appointment of a new board of directors is also well underway. Eight legacy board members, four each from the previous HDH and KGH boards, plus four newly recruited members will make up the new board. The board appointments are expected to be finalized in the next few months.

“This is an exciting time as our integrated Kingston Health Sciences Centre begins to transition from a vision to a reality,” says Dr. Pichora. “We will be working together as a team so that our new hospital can continue on with the proud legacies of Hotel Dieu Hospital and Kingston General Hospital in providing the care on which our patients count.”
