This year's Relay for Life is ready to run. The annual Canadian Cancer Society event gets underway on Friday, June 7 and goes overnight to 7 a.m. on Saturday, June 8.

Kingston General Hospital is once again a co-sponsor of the event along with the University Kingston Hospital's Foundation and as part of this arrangement, all funds raised by KGH teams will flow back to our hospital. So far, at least 10 KGH-affiliated teams have raised about $12,000. The goal now is to push that number even higher so we can make a special purchase to support cancer care at KGH.

"The money will be going towards reclining chairs that convert into beds so a family member of an oncology patient on Kidd 9 can stay overnight," says Tyler Hands, Program Manager on Kidd 9. "These chairs are already in use on our pediatric unit on Kidd 10 and have benefitted patients and their families there greatly."

KGH is aiming to purchase 12 chairs. To help, you can donate to a KGH team, join a KGH team, or even create your own last-minute group. Just visit www.relayforlife.ca and search for KGH teams.
