The weather is warming up and soon road construction season will be upon us. This year it will have a greater impact on Kingston General Hospital as the City of Kingston will begin a project to replace the infrastructure under most of the streets around the hospital.

The project will take two years to complete and will begin in late-May or early June and continue in phases into the winter as long as the weather permits. Work will then resume in the spring of 2015.

“We want to make sure this project has as little impact on patients and families, as well as our staff, so we put together a team to work closely with the City to reduce risk to the hospital,” says Rocky Prosser, Director of Emergency Management Security & Life Safety. “To ensure that everyone is as best prepared as possible, our team has been meeting with staff from around the hospital to identify those risks and put plans in place to lessen them.”

The work is scheduled to be completed on the following schedule:

  • George St. between King and Stuart (2014)
  • Stuart St. between George and Arch (2014)
  • Arch St. between Stuart and mid-Arch (tentative 2014 possibly 2015)
  • O’Kill St. between George and Barrie (2015)
  • Stuart St. between George and Lower University (2015)

More information will be available closer to the project start date.
