The United Way campaign at Kingston General Hospital is in full swing, and there are still plenty of chances for everyone to get in on the fun. All week long, canvassers will be near the Atrium selling raffle tickets, accepting pledge forms and encouraging people to learn more about the United Way.
They'll even be taking silent auction bids for a hockey stick, picture, and hockey card, all autographed by Taylor Hall of the Edmonton Oilers.
"So far this year we've had great support from the KGH community," says Chris Hammer, KGH's campaign chair. "And we're hoping to get more people excited about taking part with all the prizes that are up for grabs." The campaign will also be raffling off three large gift baskets with values ranging from $40 to over $200. With Thanksgiving right around the corner, the holiday basket featuring a turkey and all the trimmings is sure to be a big draw. It will be raffled off before this long weekend. Also in the mix, are plenty of smaller baskets, three-month GoodLife memberships and gift cards to local restaurants. "Those prizes are for the early birds who get their pledge forms in quickly," says Hammer. :We'll be raffling them off throughout the campaign using the names of those who have already pledged. So the sooner you get your forms in, the better chance you have of walking away with a prize." This year, the campaign is focused on increasing staff participation in hopes of reaching a goal of $50,000. "It's an ambitious goal, but we're really hoping more people will come on board this year," says Hammer. "We always get plenty of the one-time donations, but we'd really like staff to consider trying out the payroll deductions. There's no easier way to help your community than with just five dollars or more every couple weeks.
