Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) is receiving $15.82 million in new provincial funding to support growing patient demand and to complete essential repairs and upgrades to its hospital facilities.

The new investments include:

  • $9.1 million in funding to support growth in patient volumes and demand for acute and specialized services across southeastern Ontario.
  • $2.19 million to open four new Level 2 adult intensive care unit (ICU) beds, expanding KHSC’s Critical Care program, which cares for patients in the region with the most serious and complex medical needs.
  • $4.53 million from the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund (HIRF) to complete priority infrastructure repairs and upgrades at both the Kingston General Hospital (KGH) and Hotel Dieu Hospital (HDH) sites. Projects include roof repairs, replacement of the HDH main entrance door, upgrades to suction pump and medical gas systems at KGH, and replacement of aging elevators at HDH.

Dr. David Pichora, President and CEO of KHSC, said the investments are essential to maintaining safe and reliable hospital facilities.

“Our hospital buildings are among the oldest in Canada and it takes effort and investment to ensure we can continue to provide 21st-century care,” said Dr. Pichora. “This funding supports the services our region relies on, helps us respond to growing patient needs, and allows us to complete critical upgrades that keep our sites functional for patients, families and staff.”

John Jordan, MPP for Lanark–Frontenac–Kingston, said this funding is another sign of the province’s commitment to supporting health care across Ontario.

“Our government is pleased to support the important work KHSC does for patients and families in southeastern Ontario,” said John Jordan. “This funding will help ensure KHSC has the resources it needs to care for a growing population while maintaining the infrastructure that keeps its services running.”

KHSC is the regional lead for complex, specialty, and trauma care for more than 650,000 people across southeastern Ontario and serves as the region’s premier teaching and research hospital.
