Speech-Language Pathology Clinic

Speech language pathologists (SLPs) identify, assess, and treat communication and swallowing disorders. They support patients through evidence-informed care and best practice, helping people eat & swallow safely, and understand & express clearly.

Hotel Dieu Hospital site  
Murray, Level 1 
Patients can enter the Murray building at 144 Brock St, or, can use the Hotel Dieu Hospital site main entrance at 166 Brock St.

Referrals  

Patients require a referral from their family doctor or another health care professional.

Services  

We provide outpatient speech language pathology services for: 

  • Adults with voice concerns 
  • Adults with swallowing problems (instrumental swallowing assessment) 
  • Patients with head and neck cancer, including laryngectomy 
  • Specialty clinic support including cleft lip and palate, hearing and development, voice, and neonatal follow-up clinic 

Preparation  

Please bring: 

  •  a list of current medications including inhalers and over-the-counter medications. 
  • your appointment slip which includes the time and date of your appointment 
  • your Health Card (OHIP card) 
  • You are welcome to bring a family member or friend for support or personal assistance.  They are welcome to attend your clinic visit with you if you wish. You may also want to bring a snack in case your clinic appointment is delayed or runs late. 

What you can expect  

  • Swallowing assessments take place in the diagnostic imaging department.  
  • Most new patient exams take 1-2 hours, depending on the service.
