The Outbreak Management Team at Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC), in consultation with KFL&A Public Health, has declared an end to the COVID-19 outbreak on the Davies 5 unit of KHSC’s Kingston General Hospital site. The unit is now open to new admissions and visitors.
“We welcome this news for the sake of patients, families and staff,” says Elizabeth Bardon, COVID-19 Incident Commander at KHSC. “Outbreaks are very challenging for everyone involved and we are very grateful for the incredible expertise and teamwork that brought this outbreak to an end.”
The outbreak was initially declared on July 5. Nine patients and seven staff members were associated with it. Most of those involved were not fully vaccinated.
Pandemic protocols remain firmly in place at KHSC, including strict infection control measures, restrictions on family presence, masking requirements and active screening of patients and registered visitors. We strongly encourage inpatients to choose as their registered family visitor(s) only persons who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (i.e., 2 doses of approved vaccine + 14 days).
