Once again, superheroes save the day at KHSC

Located on the tenth floor of our Kidd-Davies wing, the view from Kingston Health Sciences Centre’s Pediatrics Unit is normally hard to beat. But, it got even better on July 25, as our young patients were greeted by a team of superheroes who jumped off the pages of the comic books and dropped by our KGH site to say hello.

The Caped Crusader and his team of superhero friends from Elite Window Cleaning took a break from fighting crime, instead spending their morning cleaning grime, as they washed windows and brought smiles to the faces of patients in the Pediatric and Neo-Natal Intensive Care Units.

“We did this last year and it was so well received by our patients that we just had to do it again,” said Kerri-Lee Bisonette, Manager of Pediatrics. “This year we decided to build on the idea and held our first annual Superhero Day. Our health-care teams also got in on the fun and dressed up and planned a special day of superhero themed arts and crafts.”

By the smiles on the faces of everyone involved, the event was clearly a hit. This is the second year that the Elite Window Cleaning team agreed to participate and dress up for their visit to the KGH site.

“There was no way we would turn down the opportunity to do this again because the reactions from the kids are nothing short of amazing,” says Chris Stoness, Owner of Elite Window Cleaning. “The experience has been fulfilling and uplifting in every aspect of our business and personal lives. It brings our crew together and gives us some real perspective on life. It’s so rewarding to be able to bring a smile to these children who are spending time away from their homes."

At the end of the day, the goal is to make the hospital experience a little easier for these young patients and their families.

“We know it can be stressful be in the hospital,” says Bisonette. “We really just want to do something that makes our patients and families forget for just a few minutes about where they are and to put a smile on their face. We want them to remember that superheroes exist in real-life and that they’re all super-kids too.”
