Specialty parking permits

There are a range of specialty parking options for certain groups of patients at the Kingston General Hospital (KGH) site. You can watch a video about these parking options or read about them below. They are:

  • Cancer permit parking
  • Dialysis permit parking
  • Asthma permit parking
  • Accessible permit parking

Cancer permit parking

Cost $1 per hour or $5 daily maximum.

If you are a patient of the Cancer Centre at the KGH site, you will receive a pink parking permit at or before your first appointment. This pink permit will allow you to take advantage of special discounted parking rates and use reserved cancer parking spaces. If you forget your pink permit, ask the clerk or a staff member in your clinic for a new one. Click here for a cancer permit parking map. With the permit you will be able to park in the following areas:

  1. George Street (Lower section near corner of King Street) permit parking – 20 spaces plus 2 accessible spaces and 3 parallel spaces - To use these spaces, you must purchase a parking receipt from the 'Pay & Display' machine on George Street. Leave your pink permit and parking receipt on your dashboard. Please use the Burr entrance into the Cancer Centre.
  2. Waterfront Lot – 53 spaces - To use these spaces, you must first purchase a receipt from the 'Pay & Display' machine on George Street. You can stay in this lot longer than the three-hour maximum as long as the parking receipt and your pink permit are both visible on your dashboard. Please use the Burr entrance into the Cancer Centre.
  3. Richardson Beach Lot – 28 spaces - To use these spaces, you must first purchase a receipt from the 'Pay & Display' machine on George Street. You can stay in this lot longer than the three-hour maximum as long as the parking receipt and your pink permit are both visible on your dashboard. Please use the Burr entrance into the Cancer Centre.
  4. GIDRU Parking Lot – George Street – 12 spaces (upper spaces designated for Cancer patients) - To use these spaces, you must first purchase a parking receipt from the 'Pay & Display' machine in the GIDRU or Ann Baillie Lots. Select the time option before inserting payment. Leave your pink permit and parking receipt on your dashboard. Please use the GIDRU entrance into the KGH site and follow the signage to the Cancer Centre.
  5. Anne Baillie Lot – George Street – 13 spaces - To use these spaces, you must first purchase a parking receipt from the 'Pay & Display' machine in this lot or the GIDRU lot. Select the time option before inserting payment. Leave your pink permit and parking receipt on your dashboard. Use the GIDRU entrance into the KGH site and follow the signage to the Cancer Centre, or walk the short distance outside to the George Street entrance of the Burr wing at the KGH site. 
  6. Overflow permit parking on Barrie and King streets - To use the Barrie Street (between King & Union) spaces, you must first purchase a receipt from the 'Pay & Display' machine on Barrie Street or George Street and display your pink permit. Parking on King Street (between Barrie and West streets) will require displaying your pink permit ONLY (no 'Pay & Display'); you are allowed to park here during the posted time restrictions. Please use the Burr entrance into the Cancer Centre.

Dialysis permit parking

Cost $1 per hour or $5 daily maximum.

If you are a dialysis patient at the KGH site, you will receive a blue parking permit at or before your first appointment. This blue permit will allow you to take advantage of special discounted parking rates and use reserved dialysis parking spaces in the GIDRU parking lot. This lot is located off of George Street and has 14 spaces in the lower section of the lot that you may use. There are also two accessible spaces in the lower area of the lot if you require one. To use the dialysis spaces:

  • You must first purchase a parking receipt from the 'Pay & Display' machines in either the GIDRU lot or Ann Baillie lot. Select the time option before inserting your payment. The machine accepts coins and credit cards (Visa or MasterCard).
  • Leave both your blue permit and parking receipt on your dashboard.
  • Please use the GIDRU entrance into the KGH site and follow the signage to the Dialysis unit.

Asthma permit parking

Cost is $3.50 for short-term parking during a clinic visit.

If you are an asthma patient you will receive a special permit that will allow you to park in the east parking lot at the main Kidd-Davies entrance of the KGH site. This lot is located off of Stuart Street. There are two designated asthma permit spaces in this lot. To use these spaces:

  • You must purchase a parking receipt from one of the two 'Pay & Display' machines in the main entrance area. Select the time option before inserting payment. 'Pay & Display' machines accept coins and credit cards (Visa or MasterCard).
  • Leave both your asthma permit and parking receipt on your dashboard. 

Accessible permit parking

There are several accessible parking spaces located close to the KGH site, including spaces near the Armstrong wing entrance (off Lower University Avenue) and the main Kidd-Davies entrance (located off of Stuart Street). There are also spaces on neighbouring streets around the KGH site and in the underground parking garage. To use these spaces you must pay whatever fee is associated with that space and display your accessible parking permit and parking receipt on your dashboard
