Students' Art Gallery at the Hotel Dieu Hospital (HDH) site

The Students' Art Gallery at the HDH site of Kingston Health Sciences Centre was established in 1985 for the benefit of families whose children require treatment. The first of its kind in North America, the gallery expanded several times during its first decade and is now comprised of 100 pictures.

The exemplary artworks are showcased at a comfortable eye level in the Children's Outpatient Centre and KidsInclusive Centre for Child and Youth Development near the main lobby of the HDH site. New exhibitions are installed three times annually. Paintings, drawings and multi-media constructions are submitted by elementary and secondary schools in the Limestone District School Board and the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board. Contributors also include Kingston Christian School as well as community programs.

Approximately 75,000 people walk through the gallery every year!

Please visit the Students' Art Gallery website to view all exhibitions, learn more about submission dates and access other interesting information about the program.

The Waiting Room Gallery, HDH site

The Waiting Room Gallery was established in 2006 with the goal of enhancing the hospital experience of patients, families and staff alike. The Gallery is located in the main patient waiting area on Johnson 7.  Artists and their work are selected based on their ability to embrace the Gallery’s mission to calm, inspire and heal.  Previous exhibitors include Debra Krakow, David Dossett, Janice P. Van Dijk, Nancy Douglas, Shawna Londry, Wendy Cain and Margaret Hughes.

All media are acceptable.  Due to space constraints, however, only artwork that can be hung on the walls will be considered. Artists are invited to send a non-returnable CD with 10 to 20 images of their work. Please include a list of works specifying size (with frame), title, medium and date. The artwork must be ready to hang.

Local Artist Gallery, Kingston General Hospital (KGH) site

A revolving display of art and images, the local Artist Gallery can be found along the well-travelled corridor on the main floor of Kidd 1—a comfortable and convenient location for patients, families, visitors, staff and volunteers to view fine art.  The Gallery aims to brighten the hospital while providing a place for distraction and contemplation for those passing by.  It has introduced thousands of people to a broad range of artistic styles and media.   Since 2015, 30 artists from the area served by Kingston Health Sciences Centre have exhibited in the Gallery.

Patients' "Expressions" Gallery, KGH site

The Patients' Art Gallery at the KGH site of Kingston Health Sciences Centre was established in 2012 and features work from patients in our Acute Mental Health Unit. It is known as the "Expressions Gallery" and is located on Level 1 of the Burr wing, in the hallway between the Burr and Watkins wings.

The artists who contributed to the gallery met once a week to turn themes such as ‘Hope' and ‘Bridge to Recovery' into works of art as a form of therapeutic expression.
