Respirology is a specialty that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the respiratory system. Services are available 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week, to both inpatients and outpatients, for a range of conditions including diseases that impact your breathing. These could include:
- Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
- Sleep disorders
- Pulmonary rehabilitation
- Cystic Fibrosis
- Pulmonary hypertension clinics
Inpatient care at the Kingston General site
If you are admitted as an inpatient, you will be given a room on one of the Medicine floors at the KGH site, which include Connell 3, Connell 9, Connell 10, or Kidd 9. If you are looking to locate an asthma patient who has been admitted to the hospital you can read more on our find a patient page.
As an inpatient, you will receive care from a health-care team that is made up of a number of different individuals. Who is on your team depends on the type of care you require. These interprofessional teams will always include doctors and nurses, but other individuals such as patient care assistants, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and dietitians, just to name a few, may also be involved in your care. Outpatient care at the Hotel Dieu site
As an outpatient, care is delivered through a variety of general, urgent and specialized clinics and programs at the HDH site in the Respirology clinic on Jeanne Mance 4. To be seen in the outpatient clinic, you must be referred by your doctor or another health care professional.
If you are coming to the Respirology Clinic, please remember to bring the following:
- Your appointment slip which includes the time and date of your appointment
- Your Health Card, also known as your OHIP card
- A complete and up-to-date list of your current medications provided to you by your pharmacist, or all of the medications you are currently taking, in their original drugstore container. This includes insulin, inhalers, any prescribed creams or eye drops as well as any non-prescription medications or supplements such as herbals and vitamins
You are also welcome to bring a family member or friend for support or personal assistance and they are welcome to attend your clinic visit with you if you wish. You may also bring a snack in case your clinic appointment is delayed or runs late
