Keeping track of what's happening at Kingston General Hospital just got easier for people outside and inside our hospital. Our Communications and Public Affairs department has redesigned and re-launched our main social media and news site KGHConnect.ca.

"This is one of many different vehicles we now use to communicate news about KGH" says Helen Simeon, Chief Communications and Public Affairs Officer. "KGHConnect.ca was launched in November 2011, and it has been growing steadily in popularity. We've now jazzed it up to make it easier for people to find and share stories about KGH, to see our latest videos and read our blogs."

The site is also more visually appealing and provides better access to our other KGHConnect social media channels.

The KGHConnect.ca site now attracts an average of 1,100 unique visitors each month. Our Twitter feed (@KGHConnect)is also on the rise and has over 1,100 followers, our LinkedIn page has about 1,300 followers and our Facebook page over 400 fans and counting. These numbers are just the tip of the iceberg. Any one of our KGHConnect tweets for example could easily be seen by over 25,000 different users. All of this is in addition to the 23,000 unique visitors who check out our main corporate website, KGH.on.ca, each month.

Our CEO Leslee Thompson is also active on social media and uses Twitter extensively to share information, news, and insights about healthcare, leadership and patient-centred care. She has over 750 followers and just surpassed the milestone of 1,000 tweets. (@Leslee_KGH)

"Our websites and social media channels mean that people who are interested in the exciting things happening at KGH are getting the information they want, in the way they want to receive it," says Simeon.

To this end, visitors to the new KGHConnect.ca site will now notice that it's easier to post comments about content, as you no longer need to sign up as a member to participate. There is also more unique content on the way, including new blogs by KGH archivist Lorna Knight and another by Dr. Stephen Archer, our program medical director and head of medicine at Queen's University.

The new site is also compatible with mobile devices and will be searchable so people can catch up on content they may have missed. You can also sign up for the KGHConnect newsletter if you prefer to receive the latest updates via e-mail.

"We're always interested in hearing back from our readers on the stories we post and publish. We're also looking for lively and fresh content and want to encourage people to participate on our social media channels," says Simeon.
