The Kingston General Hospital Auxiliary wrapped up another successful Teddy Bear Campaign this past holiday season, raising tens of thousands of dollars to help purchase patient care equipment for the pediatric program at Kingston Health Sciences Centre.

“Thanks to the generosity of donors across KHSC and our community, we raised more than $33,000 and delivered more than 300 large and small bears to eight pediatric programs, with the majority going to the Child Life Program on Kidd 10,” says campaign co-chair Heather Breck.

The 2018 campaign well surpassed its fundraising goal of $25,000. Now, the proceeds will be turned over to KHSC to purchase basic but vital equipment such as ophthalmoscopes, used to image the back of the eye and critical in diagnosing illnesses such as brain tumors, as well as patient monitors and weigh scales.

Also helping the bottom line was the Auxiliary’s annual Photos with Santa project, which raised $1500 for the campaign. The Auxiliary also once again received support from the Royal Canadian Legion 560 and so many community donors, including high school student volunteers who contributed $4,700 through bake sales in the hospital last summer and through student leadership in their schools.

“We deeply appreciate everyone’s continuing support for the annual Teddy Bear Campaign,” says Breck. “It supports our youngest patients by ensuring they have the best patient care equipment and by providing them with the comfort of a cuddly teddy bear when they need it most.”
