As a family member of a patient in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), we believe you are an important part of their care team. We will work to make sure you understand your family member's condition and the care they are receiving. We encourage you to meet with your loved one's care team and ask any questions you may have. To help with this you can request a family meeting with your family member's doctor. We also understand you'll be visiting your loved one on a regular basis and we encourage you to become familiar with their care, as well as the daily schedule of the ICU.
KIDD 2 ICU daily schedule
7 to 8 a.m.: Nursing report and shift change
9 to 9:30 a.m.: The full health-care team meets to review each patient and plan for the care they require each day
9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.: ICU physicians visit each patient, along with the rest of the health-care team, to review the medical care plan and make necessary changes
1 to 4:30 p.m.: Ongoing patient care continues. If a family meeting is requested, it will usually occur during these hours
4 to 5:30 p.m.: The ICU team members review each patient and plan for the care to be delivered overnight
7 to 8:00 p.m.: Nursing report and shift change
Davies 4 ICU daily schedule
7 to 8 a.m.: Nursing report and shift change
8:30 to 9 a.m.: Multidisciplinary team will do their rounds. This includes the charge nurse, physiotherapist, respiratory therapist, pharmacist, dietitian, clinical educator, social worker, and safety coordinator
9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.: Ongoing medical rounds specific to each patient and service will take place. During this time patients may also travel to and from tests in other areas of the hospital
