Dr. Renwick’s research builds on postdoctoral training in pathology (Columbia University) and RNA molecular biology (The Rockefeller University) under the expert guidance of Prof. Thomas Tuschl. Through advanced training, Neil has comprehensive knowledge of disease mechanisms and post-transcriptional gene regulation (a cellular control mechanism involving RNA-binding proteins, microRNAs, and their target RNAs). Coupled with medical (University of Otago) and doctoral research (University of Amsterdam) training, Neil has a sustained track record of significant and original research in disease investigation.

Dr. Renwick’s laboratory focuses on post-transcriptional gene regulation in health and disease. His research vision is to use RNA to understand, diagnose, and treat disease. His current research directions include: (i) understanding the genetic basis of post-transcriptional gene regulation, (ii) profiling and visualizing RNAs in healthy and diseased tissues, and (iii) elucidating pathomechanisms of post-transcriptional regulatory defects using cell culture and animal disease models. His studies also enable RNA-based diagnostics and therapeutics.
