Inherited Heart Rhythm Clinic
The clinic provides assistance with diagnosis, management and support for individuals and their families affected by an inherited heart condition such as familial cardiomyopathy and arrhythmia. We are able to provide advice and counseling to help you navigate the issues around genetic testing.
Many people that attend the clinics come to us to talk about the importance of a family history of heart rhythm disorders that are known to have a genetic origin or has recurred in their family. Frequently this is helpful for people who are planning a family and in some cases is important to allow appropriate planning for prenatal services in future pregnancies.
We welcome referrals including:
- Patients or families with a family history of sudden cardiac death
- Patients with an abnormal ECG suggestive of an inherited arrhythmia
- Patients or families with a family history of a known inherited cardiac condition
Referrals to the clinic can be made through the Medical Genetics Unit at KGH using the General Referral Form or through the Cardiology Department at KGH.
