The fabric has been measured, the paint picked and some new pieces of furniture selected. Starting later this month, work will begin to freshen up the dining areas of The Atrium.

"Staff have let us know they would like this popular space to be brighter and more comfortable, and the changes we have planned will make a big difference," says Sheri Campbell, Director of Nutrition Services.

The renovations are scheduled to begin on Thursday, Nov. 21 and will last for just over a week. The work will be done in phases so The Atrium can remain open.

The renovations will include:

New fabric on the banquettes that is neutral in colour and easy to clean

New barstools

Fresh paint

Installation of a drinking water tower, with free water and ice

Microwave/condiment station

Another highlight will be replacing the tables near the windows with soft, comfortable seating.

"The idea is to create a very relaxing environment where people can sit in a comfortable chair and enjoy their break," says Campbell. "There will still be plenty of space in the other parts of The Atrium for people to enjoy a meal."

The renovations follow the recent staff Food and Beverage Offerings Survey. It was available last month on our intranet and 970 people took part to share their opinions and suggestions. That feedback is now being closely assessed.

'We are seeing a lot of good suggestions in the survey results and more changes to the food and beverage options around the hospital could be in the works soon," says J'Neene Coghlan. "Our goal is to ensure staff and others have a range of healthy, enjoyable and popular food and drinks to choose while at KGH."
