What to pack for the hospital

We know there is a lot to keep in mind when you are having a baby. It is a good idea to pack these items in a bag ahead of time so that you can grab them and go when it is time to come to the hospital.

For your labour and delivery:

  • OHIP card
  • pen to complete forms
  • history/prenatal forms (if available)
  • a watch
  • lollipop or hard candy
  • lip balm
  • clear beverages such as water or ginger ale
  • comfortable clothing
  • slippers/sandals (with rubber soles)

For your stay in the hospital:

  • personal hygiene items
  • package of overnight or heavy flow sanitary pads
  • extra pairs of underwear to hold pads
  • for breastfeeding - breast pads, nursing bra, lanolin cream
  • extra snacks

For your baby:

  • diapers
  • baby wipes
  • diaper cream
  • unscented baby soap
  • baby clothing - sleepers, blankets
  • car seat (assembled and already installed)
