The KHSC Peer Partner Support Program is designed to support and protect the psychological and emotional well-being of staff by offering informal, confidential help through trained peers. This program aligns with KHSC’s goal of fostering a workplace that promotes mental well-being. Mental health challenges can be difficult to manage alone, and the stigma surrounding them may make it uncomfortable to seek help from traditional sources like a manager or union representative. Peer Partners provide an alternative, offering support for a range of issues, including emotional distress and mental health concerns.
We’re All in This Together
Launched in 2020, the Peer Partner Program has been a vital resource in empowering staff, fostering a sense of community, and helping individuals and families navigate the pandemic and recovery.
Although Peer Partners are not professional counsellors, they are trained to assist staff in overcoming obstacles and accessing necessary resources (e.g. Mental Health First Aid, Trauma-Informed Care, etc.).
What a Peer Partner Can Offer:
- Confidential, non-judgmental, and empathetic listening and support
- Immediate access to peer partners and other resources within KHSC and the community
- Support for short- and long-term mental health needs
- Help reduce the stigma around mental health challenges
- Build a sense of community and reduce feelings of isolation
