Is there a difference between a volunteer and an auxiliary member?
Volunteers at the KGH site are not automatically a KGH Auxiliary member. The primary focus of the Auxiliary is to raise funds to support the KGH site of KHSC.
Do I have to attend meetings or volunteer?
No. As a general member there is no obligation to attend meetings, but you are invited and encouraged to. By staying abreast of KGHA activities you will know how your support can enhance our impact at Kingston General Hospital. Attending meetings also provides you with an opportunity to meet others passionate about patient centred care and share your ideas. You can attend our General Meeting in June which feature informative speakers and lunch at a reasonable cost.
What is in it for me?
You will become part of a group that raises and donates millions of dollars for patient care and equipment to the hospital. You will meet many people from all walks of life and enjoy the camaraderie of this dedicated and passionate group of people. You will have the opportunity to participate in educational sessions, better understand health care, and changes in the hospital.
How can I support the Auxiliary?
You can show your support in many ways such as by shopping in our Gift Shop, Tuck Shop, or having a bite to eat in our Café whenever you are in the hospital; by purchasing a plaque on the Field of Miracles Wall; making a donation to the General Fund; by donating to and/or attending our Christmas Bazaar; by making a donation to the Auxiliary Memorial Fund in memory of a deceased loved one; and by spreading the word in the community of our endeavours. In addition, we can always use the donations of the items listed below, which can be dropped off at the Gift Shop at the KGH site (use main entrance off Stuart Street). Please place in a bag and mark as items for Auxiliary services:
• recent paperback books
• newborn/infant clothing (clean and in good condition)
• Knitted/crocheted sweaters and blankets for infants and lap blankets for the elderly patients
• track suits, t-shirts and sweaters (clean & in good condition)
• crafts/hand knit items for our Christmas Bazaar
