It’s been just over three months since we shared the news that Kingston General Hospital and Hotel Dieu Hospital had agreed to integrate and create a new academic health sciences centre. Since then, teams at both hospitals have been focused on the behind the scenes legal work needed to create the new organization by April 1, 2017.

Now a new phase of this important work is beginning. We are now reaching out to everyone who works, learns and volunteers at both of our hospitals and to the public across our region to gather people's thoughts on the future of hospital care in Kingston.

“Our goal is to create a new hospital that everyone can be proud of,” says Dr. David Pichora, who is currently the CEO of HDH and will serve as the CEO of the new organization. “This integration is all about coming together to create something greater than each of our hospitals can be on its own. With one strategy, team and budget it will lift us to a new level of innovation and investment that will mean improved care for patients and families. It will put Kingston on the same map as larger health sciences centres in the province.”

To ensure we are hearing from as many people as possible in the community, we have now launched an online survey. The survey is based on a large telephone survey we are now holding across the region and it’s an easy way for everyone to share with us their thoughts, ideas, concerns and questions about integration in an anonymous and confidential way.

The online survey is now available on our joint integration website at www.kingstonhsc.com. It includes multiple-choice and open-ended questions where people can share their thoughts more fully. It will be available until November 4 at which time we will look closely at the input everyone has shared and then report back to the community on what we have learned.
