In their first major donation to the Kingston hospitals, McDougall Insurance and Financial has committed a gift of $25,000 to support the next round of renewal at Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC).

“We are pleased to make this commitment to KHSC,” said Blair Shaw, a partner at McDougall’s Upper Canada office. “Health care is something we care deeply about, and we are proud to support our local hospitals.”

The upcoming Phase 2 Redevelopment project at KHSC's Kingston General Hospital site includes building a new tower to replace the outdated Empire, Dietary and Douglas wings. The tower will create state-of-the-art space for laboratories, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, labour and delivery, operating rooms and the emergency department.

“This is about providing the facilities we need for our specialized care teams so that we can provide the best care for people from across southeastern Ontario,” said David O’Toole, Chair of the KHSC Board of Directors.

Before construction can begin, the community must raise the “local share” of the redevelopment cost. That share includes that 10 per cent of construction and 100 per cent of equipment. One of the key methods of securing the local share is through charitable donations to the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation (UHKF).

“Gifts from generous community members like McDougall Insurance and Financial are essential to fund healthcare redevelopment needs, equipment, and research in the Kingston region,” said Shannon Coull, Director of Leadership Philanthropy at UHKF. “We are so thrilled that they have made this commitment to demonstrate they care for the health of the people of southeastern Ontario.”
