Intensive Care

Patients admitted to Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) for intensive care need life-sustaining treatment that cannot be delivered elsewhere in the organization, or at other hospitals in southeastern Ontario.

If someone has suffered a sudden life-threatening change in their medical condition, needs close observation, or has undergone a certain operation that requires specialized care during recovery, they may need to stay on an Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

There are two ICUs at KHSC's Kingston General Hospital site. The Kidd 2 ICU is a 33-bed unit and the Davies 4 ICU has 18 beds. Both areas have highly trained teams who work closely with patients and families on their roads to recovery.

Family members are important members of the care team, so we encourage visiting a patient in the ICU and we are committed to providing support for families with loved ones in the ICU.
