The benefits and challenges of technology-based health care. Enhancing the recruitment and retention of new nurses into long-term care. The importance of patients’ and caregivers’ voices in improving care outcomes and influencing health policy.
New research focusing on these and other issues by nurses and student nurses is among more than 20 talks and posters at this year’s Kingston Nursing Research Conference. Participants represent institutions that include Kingston Health Sciences Centre, Queen’s University, Providence Care, St. Lawrence College, Health Sciences North, and Cambrian College.
This combined in-person and virtual event takes place Thursday, March 9, 2023 at the Donald Gordon Conference Centre.
Keynote speakers are Tilda Shalof, RN, BScN and bestselling author, and Katie Goldie, PhD, Associate Professor of Nursing at Queen’s University.
Ms Shalof, known popularly as “Nurse Tilda”, is currently publishing her seventh book about her profession and has presented across Canada on her experiences as a nurse and nurse advocate in a wide range of practice, from critical care to public health and long-term care. She will celebrate the contributions of nurse-researchers in her talk, “My Excellent Adventures in Nursing Research.”
Dr. Goldie is a nurse-scientist who completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health's Nicotine Dependence Clinic. In addition to tobacco-nicotine use, her research specialties include cardiovascular risk reduction, palliative care, and mental health. She also supervises a number of graduate student nurses-scientists. She will speak on “Protecting New Graduates' Mental Health as they Transition to Nursing Practice.”
