Now that the weather is turning towards summer, it’s time for the annual Commuter Challenge. Once again, Kingston General Hospital is teaming up with KFL&A Public Health and other community partners to encourage people to leave their cars at home and instead walk, cycle, carpool or ride the bus to work from May 31 to June 6.

The challenge is a friendly competition between Canadian cities and work places and for three years running, Kingston has achieved the highest participation rate for a city of our size in the country.

To sign up, go directly to www.commuterchallenge.ca. Once you’ve registered, you can use the online tool to keep track of the distance you have commuted during the week without your car. If you work at KGH, your numbers will then be added to KGH’s totals, including overall fuel cost savings, emission reductions, and calorie consumption.

As a bonus, every participant is also eligible to win a bicycle valued at $600, bike accessories, a one-week pass to the Queen’s Athletic and Recreation Centre and a Kingston Transit bus pass.
