It’s as sure a sign as any that spring has arrived. Construction crews have taken over Okill Street as they prepare to begin the second phase of the City of Kingston’s project to replace the roads and sewers around Kingston General Hospital.

The work on Okill is expected to take a little more than a month to complete. After that, the real work begins as crews tackle Stuart Street and Arch Street beginning in mid-June. The entire project is expected to be complete by late September.

Due to this construction, the inter-hospital shuttle will change its route around the hospital, effective immediately. The shuttle will no longer use George Street and several stops will be re-located. The Angada Wing stop located at George Street and Stuart Street will instead stop at Barrie and Stuart Streets. The stop outside of the Burr Wing will be relocated to King Street directly outside of the Cancer Centre.

As a reminder, all KGH entrances will remain open and accessible for patients and families during construction. Special members of the construction team, wearing red hardhats will also be in place to help direct traffic and assist people in finding their way around the construction. Weekly construction updates will be posted throughout the project on our construction page
