Along with aiming to provide Outstanding Care, Always to our patients, people at KGH are also working hard to support patients everywhere by generating new medical knowledge and by teaching the next generation of health-care professionals.

As one of Ontario’s 24 research hospitals, we are a member of the Council of Academic Hospitals of Ontario (CAHO) and we are an important contributor to our shared goal of making Ontario Healthier, Wealthier and Smarter.

This campaign is now bringing together governments, universities, industry, funders, patients, care givers and others help create the best health-care system in the world, find and apply tomorrow’s cures today, and at the same time contribute to the growth of Ontario’s economy.

To help make Ontario Healthier, we have our own KGH Research Institute where more than 160 researchers are expanding the boundaries of knowledge in areas like critical care, chronic pulmonary and cardiovascular disease, gastrointestinal disease, emergency medicine and cancer.  At the moment, our researchers are running over 500 research projects and over 150 clinical trials.

This work places us as one of the country’s top 40 research hospitals, and each year our research activities add up to over $23 million.  In this way we are helping make Ontario Wealthier by creating jobs and by contributing to the discovery of new and more efficient ways to deliver patient care.

We are also helping make Ontario Smarter by attracting and retaining some of the brightest and best researchers and clinicians in the world to our province to join in the pursuit of innovation and discovery.

“Along with providing the best care for patients, research hospitals have the additional responsibility of inventing tomorrow’s care and applying it today. And when we do that, we help to make Ontario Healthier, Wealthier and Smarter,” says KGH CEO, Leslee Thompson.
