Most, but not all procedures, require an appointment to be booked ahead of time. This includes CT scans, Interventional Radiology, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, and bone mineral densitometry examinations. You can also read more about how to prepare for an appointment, where to go when you arrive, what happens during an appointment and what the Imaging department looks like.
If you are coming from outside the hospital for a general X-ray, you do not need an appointment and the examination can be done during normal daytime hours between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at the KGH site. At the HDH Site, you can get an outpatient x-ray between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday to Friday (including statutory holidays) and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends. You should expect a short wait time before your x-ray, which will vary based on the number of patients in the department on that day.
Arrival times are determined by the Imaging Services Department Staff to include enough time for us to prepare you for your test. These arrival times can only be given out or changed by KHSC Imaging Services Staff. If you are unsure of your arrival time for your test please call our KGH site at 613-549-6666 extension 2301 and a receptionist can help you.
To confirm, cancel or schedule an appointment, or if you are unsure if you require an appointment to be booked, please contact us at 613-549-6666, extension 2301.
When will my appointment take place
Depending on the type of imaging exam you need there may be a wait time for your appointment. More urgent cases are given priority, and less urgent cases are scheduled afterward. However, we understand that your care is always important and we will work with you as best as we can to find a time that is appropriate for the type of exam you require.
Our department reports MRI and CT wait times monthly to the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. These reports can be found on the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care's website. For our other types of Imaging we would be happy to answer questions about wait times.
Appointment length
The booking clerk who calls to make your appointment can give you an estimate of how long your appointment is going to take. We will let you know when you arrive if we are on schedule, ahead of schedule, or if we have been delayed by emergencies. We value your time and appreciate your patience.
