Our aim at KGH is an inspiring one – to deliver Outstanding Care, Always to every patient, every day. To help us deliver on that aim, we created an Integrated Annual Corporate Plan (IACP) that spells out the most important work we need to tackle each year. It’s developed carefully with input from programs, departments and services across the hospital. This time, the process took on a new dimension as we took the opportunity to refresh our long-standing strategic directions as well.

“The KGH 2015 strategy has focused our efforts and allowed us to make tremendous improvements over the past six years while delivering consistently strong performance,” says Jim Flett, Interim CEO. "Considering all that we accomplished over the last six years and the work that is taking place to improve the system of hospital care in our region, we decided the timing was right to refresh some important parts of our strategy, namely the strategic directions and the enablers that support them.”

To help zero in on what these new strategic directions could be, a series of engagement sessions were held where leaders and staff discussed the forces of change shaping Ontario’s health-care system, while envisioning where KGH could be in two years’ time. These sessions included over 60 Team Talk sessions for staff, a special Leaders Planning Day, and input from the Patient and Family Advisory Council, volunteers and physicians.

Out of these discussions, a new IACP was developed that features six strategic directions everyone should know about.

Working together with our patients and families we will:

“The new directions put a spotlight on our goal of ensuring that everyone who works, learns and volunteers at KGH has a positive work experience each day and on our participation in the Health Care Tomorrow - Hospital Services initiative to build a sustainable system of integrated hospital care across the region,” says Flett. “We’ve also taken the opportunity to set new KGH 2018 outcomes for each strategic direction that advance our clinical, academic and operating strategies, while remaining true to our aim, five guiding principles, and overall mission.”

The new IACP now includes four enablers of high performance including People, Technology, Facilities and Finances. Each comes with new outcomes and targets attached. To help everyone connect with our new IACP, it now has a new look and feel, featuring colour-coded sections with icons.

“The new Integrated Annual Corporate Plan has been fully redesigned to make it easier for people to read and orient themselves to what we’re aiming to accomplish over the next two years,” says Theresa MacBeth, Director of Strategy Management and Communications. “Because it is housed on the KGH external website we will update it quarterly with the most recent performance results so everyone can see how we’re doing.”

As always, the latest IACP aligns with our hospital budget, Quality Improvement Plan and the Hospital Services Accountability Agreement (HSAA) to ensure all of our priorities are included and resourced. Over the next few weeks, teams will be gathering to do detailed tactic planning to ensure we are doing the right work to achieve our 2016-17 targets.
